M°BA 13: FETISHISM IN FASHION

M°BA 13: FETISHISM IN FASHION
Arnhem, June 8 – July 21, 2013
Taking shape through 13 thematic rooms that illustrate fascinating and expansive definitions of fetishism.
Lidewij Edelkoort is the curator of the fifth edition of M°BA (Mode Biënnale Arnhem). In response to the newest undercurrents in society and style, Edelkoort has chosen to explore the world of fashion through a fetishistic lens. Arnhem is Holland’s fashion capital and home to the famous ArtEZ Institute of the Arts where Edelkoort studied and whose Fashion Department will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2013. The biennale will be held in different locations around the city, spanning several exhibitions, seminars, a film festival, dance and pop-up installations:

SHOPPING

dress vintage moschino, photo by imke klee

Lidewij Edelkoort has forecast that brands will need to rethink retail in 2012 if they want to recover from what has become the worst economic downturn in living memory. Outdated formulas and old-fashioned formats will be replaced by anticipated service, innovative store experiences and edited online retailing: "Shopping will need to become a trip within our inner selves to satisfy our complex needs and wishes and therefore needs to be addressed in a truly innovative manner, to reach the consumer on another, more private level. Imagination, improvisation, intelligence and humour are needed to redefine the shopping experiences of tomorrow".
